...A 33-year old Santa Monica man died early this morning when his motorcycle collided with a van. James Spheeris was eastbound on Ashland Avenue at 2 a.m. when he collided with a van that was northbound on Third Street, Detective Scott Gordon said.
The driver of the van, Bruce Burnside, 36, of Santa Monica, was booked by Santa Monica police on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter.
Spheeris struck the left front side of the van with his head, then fell to the pavement and skidded another 50 feet, Gordon reported. Spheeris was taken to Santa Monica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from head injuries, Gordon said.
